How are energy and security connected in the Baltic Sea Region? In this book a number of Russian and Swedish scholars analyze how the drive for more energy will affect the prospects for cooperation and risks of conflict around the Baltic Sea. Different energy sources such as gas, oil and nuclear power and its impacts on the regional security and the environment are discussed. The articles in this book are a result of the conference Energy and Security in the Baltic Sea Region that was held at Stockholm University, 8-9 May 2009, based on a cooperation between Department of Economic History at Stockholm University and the Department of Global Politics at St Petersburg State University. Thomas Jonter is professor in International Relations at the Department of History, Stockholm University. His research is focused on nuclear non-proliferation and energy security. Ilja Viktorov is Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies, Södertörn University in Stockholm. Currently he is conducting research on the emergence of the Russian financial markets after the cold war.
