How to use the cards
As a coach you are a tool in activate other people’s personal development.
It is a great advantage if you can efficiently read off the type of personality the individual you are coaching has as it gives you the opportunity to adapt the questions. Your understanding of the person’s drive also facilitates your adaptation of manner of communication according to the personality type.
Reliable experience indicates that trust can easier be established that way. The various types have very different motivation factors. Persons who for instance are motivated by setting goals, should maybe even decrease the amount of goals in life. Others should let thoughts of the past rest in favour of focusing on the present. Some people need to let emotions be
a part of their decisions.
If a person resembles a dart board and the coach’s questions are the arrows, it becomes obvious that the closer the centre (bull’s eye) the coach strikes, the development opportunity for the coached person increases.
As for all coaching, all interaction is made with great respect for the coached person. In addition to our Enneagram type, everyone carries a history that has made us the persons we are today. The Enneagram card should be considered a source of inspiration and a dynamic tool for an experienced coach.

erpOwnsPrice Kort BeskrivningThe Enneagram is a psychological model that describes nine different basic personalities and their behaviour in terms of drive, motivation, stress, conflict and defense.
The Enneagram is presented in the shape of a circle where numbers are located. This means that each number has two neighbours called ”wings”. As in real life, we can imitate and be influenced more or less by our neighbours’ behaviour.
Each type is furthermore connected with two other types and this connection is called “leg”. One leg is called stress leg and the other leg is called safety leg. When we are exposed to stress in our lives, we pick up the defence behaviour from the personality type off wich we have our stress leg connected to. This makes us observe that “aha, I am stressed” as it makes us an inferior version of ourselves. If we feel good, we pick up the safety behaviour from the type to which we have our safety leg connected to.
The large variety found within the nine different personalities may be explained based upon what behaviours we pick up from our given types according to the model.
According to the Enneagram, each personality type may also be found at nine different development levels. The level we are on depends on to what extent we consider ourselves to be responsible for our life. This is then reflected in our behaviours and the way we look upon the world. All personalities have their strengths and challenges and when we are in balance, we can make use of the behaviours that are our strengths - we are simply our best selves.
The Enneagram provides us with a comprehensive platform from which we can understand ourselves and others which will help us to accept our differences and comply with each other.
